Allergen, Food, Crab IgG
Also known as: CRAB IGG
Use
This test measures IgG antibodies specific to crab allergens using a quantitative ImmunoCAP fluorescent enzyme immunoassay. IgG antibodies, unlike IgE, do not cause allergic symptoms but can indicate exposure to the allergen. It is useful in monitoring allergic reactions or response to immunotherapy. However, clinical correlation with patient history and other findings is essential, as IgG antibodies alone cannot be used to diagnose allergy.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be handled according to allergen specimen collection instructions provided by the laboratory to ensure volume adequacy for testing. Refer to ARUP's allergen specimen collection instructions for detailed guidance on specimen handling.
Limitations
The test is not approved by the New York State Department of Health. It is a laboratory-developed test performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The presence of IgG antibodies alone is not diagnostic of allergy and must be interpreted in the context of clinical presentation and other diagnostic measures.
