Allergen, Food, Ginger IgE
Also known as: GINGER
Use
The test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum to determine if a patient might be sensitized to Ginger (Zingiber officinale). These findings help in evaluating the probability of an IgE-mediated allergic reaction. The concentration of allergen-specific IgE is reflective of sensitization but may not always correlate with clinical response. Clinical history and in vivo reactivity should be considered.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters before undergoing testing. The test is performed using serum separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. For multiple allergen orders, refer to additional specimen collection instructions.
Limitations
Results showing allergen-specific IgE between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. While increasing IgE concentrations suggest sensitization, they may not correlate with the severity of an allergic reaction or the results of allergy testing in vivo. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
