Allergen, Food, Salmon
Also known as: SALMON
Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to salmon in serum using a Quantitative ImmunoCAP Fluorescent Enzyme Immunoassay. It assists in diagnosing IgE-mediated allergic reactions to salmon, helping specialists to correlate laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity. The results are vital for understanding allergic responses and managing treatment plans for patients showing clinical symptoms of salmon allergies.
Special Instructions
Separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure sample integrity. Transfer serum to ARUP Standard Transport Tube promptly. Avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent sample contamination.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations may not correlate with the severity of clinical allergic reactions or skin testing results. A negative test does not exclude the possibility of clinical allergy or hypersensitivity, including anaphylaxis. Results in the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted with caution by specialists.
