Allergen, Weed, Marsh Elder
Also known as: MARSHELDER
Use
The Allergen, Weed, Marsh Elder IgE test is used to detect and quantify allergen-specific IgE antibodies in serum to aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases related to marsh elder pollen. This quantitative test measures the IgE concentration in kilounits per liter (kU/L) to assess the probability of an IgE mediated clinical reaction. The results help in determining the sensitivity to marsh elder allergens and assist in managing allergic conditions related to this specific allergen.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection. After separation, serum should be transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for analysis.
Limitations
Concentrations detected may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and are intended for specialist use. A negative test result does not rule out the presence of a clinical allergy or the potential for anaphylaxis, highlighting the importance of correlating laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity.
