Allergens, Inhalants, Comprehensive Profile 2
Also known as: REGRAST
Use
The Allergens, Inhalants, Comprehensive Profile 2 test is used to quantitatively measure allergen-specific IgE to a comprehensive panel of inhalant allergens. These allergens include common environmental triggers such as molds, trees, grasses, weeds, and animal dander. The test helps identify specific allergens responsible for allergic reactions, providing valuable information for the diagnosis and management of allergic diseases, including rhinitis, asthma, and conjunctivitis. The quantified IgE levels against these common inhalants can aid in tailoring specific allergen avoidance strategies and immunotherapy protocols.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters and specimen tubes should be avoided. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection, and then transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube to ensure the quality of the sample. Adequate serum volume is required for comprehensive allergen testing.
Limitations
While the test provides quantitative measurements of allergen-specific IgE, these levels may not correlate with the degree of clinical allergic reactions or predict the outcome of skin testing. The clinical relevance of low-level IgE (0.10-0.34 kU/L) is undetermined and should be used in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity tests. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
