Allergens, Inhalants/Foods, Comprehensive Profile 2
Also known as: COMP 29
Use
This test is used to measure specific IgE antibodies to common inhalant and food allergens. The results can help in the diagnosis of allergic conditions and in identifying responsible allergens in IgE-mediated allergic diseases, potentially guiding treatment and management plans.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Multiple specimen tubes should be avoided. Refrigerate serum after collection and ensure that separation from cells occurs within 2 hours of collection to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
The test measures allergen-specific IgE concentrations but these may not correlate with clinical symptoms. Results with values between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have uncertain clinical relevance. A negative result does not exclude food or inhalant allergies. Clinical correlation with patient history and additional testing may be necessary to confirm the allergy diagnosis.
