Allergens, Inhalants, Midwest Comprehensive 2
Also known as: MWPRO 19
Use
This test is used to detect IgE antibodies specific to a panel of allergens commonly found in the Midwest region, aiding in the diagnosis of allergic conditions such as hay fever, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. Its results are designed to guide clinicians in determining the presence of allergen-specific immune responses in patients, helping to develop appropriate treatment plans and avoiding unnecessary exposure to identified allergens.
Special Instructions
Collection should aim to minimize the number of patient encounters and multiple specimen tubes. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection, and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube to ensure adequate conditions for testing.
Limitations
The test results of allergen-specific IgE levels between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted with caution. The quantitative IgE levels may not directly correlate with the severity of clinical allergic reactions or skin test results. A negative result does not definitively rule out allergic conditions or anaphylaxis; therefore, results should always be correlated with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity.
