Allergens, Inhalants, Southwest Comprehensive 1
Also known as: SWADULT
Use
This test is designed to detect specific IgE antibodies to a comprehensive panel of inhalant allergens commonly found in the Southwest region. It helps diagnose allergic reactions to these inhalants by measuring the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood. The results assist clinicians in identifying potential allergens contributing to a patient's allergic symptoms, aiding in the management and treatment of allergic disorders.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Ensure specimen collection and handling instructions are followed to maintain adequate specimen volume for allergen testing.
Limitations
The test measures allergen-specific IgE levels but these may not directly correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or reactions to allergen challenges. Results within the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and are intended for specialist use. False negatives may occur, thus a negative result does not rule out allergies or anaphylaxis. Correlation with clinical history and in vivo reactivity is essential for accurate diagnosis.
