Allergens, Inhalants, Southwest Comprehensive 2
Also known as: SWINHALE
Use
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies to a comprehensive range of inhalant allergens that are common in the Southwest region of the United States. It aids in the diagnosis of allergic reactions and conditions, such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and conjunctivitis.
Special Instructions
Ensure adequate specimen volume for multiple allergens. Avoid multiple patient encounters and multiple specimens to prevent discrepancies. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection.
Limitations
The clinical relevance for allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L is undetermined and may require specialist consultation. The measured concentrations of allergen-specific IgE may not correlate directly with clinical allergy symptoms or skin test results. A negative result does not definitively rule out allergy or even anaphylaxis.
