Allergens, Weeds, Southeast Basic Profile
Also known as: GAWEEDPRO
Use
This test is used to assess IgE-mediated allergic reactions to a panel of common weed allergens found in the Southeast region. The detection of specific IgE antibodies to these allergens may aid in diagnosing allergic conditions and help guide treatment decisions. However, the presence of specific IgE does not always correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms, and results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo testing.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters and multiple specimen tubes. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, preferably within two hours of collection. Transfer an appropriate volume of serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for submission.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations do not consistently correlate with the severity of allergic reactions. Results between 0.10 and 0.34 kU/L have an undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by an allergy specialist. False negatives are possible as a negative result does not rule out allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Clinical correlation with patient's history and further in vivo testing is recommended for accurate diagnosis.
