Alpha-Synuclein by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: ASYN IHC
Use
The Alpha-Synuclein by Immunohistochemistry test is used for the visualization of alpha-synuclein protein in tissues, which is relevant in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. The staining pattern can help pathologists evaluate the presence and distribution of alpha-synuclein aggregates, which are characteristic of these disorders.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service only. Submit electronic request through ARUP Connect or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number if electronic ordering capability is unavailable. Protect paraffin block and slides from excessive heat during transport.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the US FDA but is developed and performed in a CLIA certified laboratory, intended for clinical use. It is important to note that the performance characteristics of this test, including its sensitivity and specificity, have been determined by ARUP Laboratories.
