Amphetamines, Urine, Quantitative
Also known as: AMPS UR
Use
This test is used to obtain quantitative results of amphetamines in urine or to follow up on a presumptive positive result from an initial drug screen. It is useful in both clinical settings for assessing drug use and potential compliance in medication management. Not recommended for general screening; an initial screen with reflex to quantitation is preferred to confirm specific drug presence and quantification.
Special Instructions
For medical purposes only; this test is not valid for forensic use. The concentration value must be greater than or equal to the cutoff to be reported as positive. Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory. Specimens should not be exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles as this can impact the test result validity.
Limitations
There are several potential limitations to consider. The absence of expected drug(s) and/or drug metabolite(s) may indicate non-compliance, inappropriate timing of specimen collection relative to drug administration, poor drug absorption, diluted/adulterated urine, or limitations of testing. While the methodology is robust, results are limited by improper specimen handling or intrinsic variances in metabolism and excretion of drugs among individuals.
