Amylase, Body Fluid
Also known as: AMY-FL
Use
The Amylase, Body Fluid test measures the level of amylase enzyme in body fluids such as pancreatic, peritoneal/ascites, or pleural fluid. It is utilized for diagnosing and monitoring conditions like pancreatitis or other disorders affecting amylase concentration in body fluids. The results can aid in determining the cause of fluid accumulation and assessing the function of the pancreas and other relevant organs.
Special Instructions
Please ensure that the source of the body fluid is specified when submitting the specimen. Specimens must be properly centrifuged to remove cellular material before transfer to the ARUP standard transport tube.
Limitations
This test is designated as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and is intended solely for clinical use. Specimens outside the listed acceptable types or those too viscous for analysis may lead to inaccurate results and will be rejected.
