Aneuploidy Panel by FISH
Also known as: FISHANEU
Use
The Aneuploidy Panel by FISH is used to detect aneuploidy in chromosomes involved in common trisomies, including chromosomes 13, 18, and 21, as well as the X and Y sex chromosomes. This test is specifically utilized for newborns with suspected cases of aneuploidy, potentially providing vital information for genetic counseling and further chromosomal analysis if required.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved and requires informed consent for genetic testing, especially for New York clients. Sample processing may incur additional charges if specimen integrity is compromised or if the procedure is canceled after setup. The test must be ordered using the specific Cytogenetic test request form #43097, and a patient history form is required.
Limitations
The Aneuploidy Panel by FISH analysis does not rule out aneuploidy of chromosomes other than those specifically targeted (13, 18, 21, X, Y) and does not provide information about structural abnormalities or mosaicism. Its interpretation might be limited if there is insufficient cell growth or if the specified probes fail to hybridize appropriately. Counseling and informed consent are recommended due to these limitations.
