Antibiotic Level, Ceftazidime
Also known as: ML CEFTAZ
Use
Monitoring the levels of the antimicrobial drug ceftazidime is crucial for ensuring therapeutic drug monitoring, particularly for adjusting doses in patients with altered pharmacokinetics, such as those with renal impairment or critically ill patients, to maximize efficacy and minimize toxicity.
Special Instructions
Please include the time of the last dose and provide a list of all antibiotics the patient is receiving or has received in the past 48 hours as this information is essential for the proper execution of the test and subsequent physician interpretation.
Limitations
Bioassay results may be influenced by the presence of other antimicrobial agents, which can interfere with the assay. Inherent differences among patients, including their underlying physical conditions as well as the dose and route of administration of the antimicrobial agent, may also impact antimicrobial levels. Interpretation of trough serum concentrations is limited due to the lack of well-established ranges.
