Candida auris by PCR
Also known as: CAURIS PCR
Use
The Candida auris by PCR test is intended for the surveillance of Candida auris. Surveillance testing is crucial as Candida auris is a multidrug-resistant yeast that has been associated with invasive infections and hospital outbreaks. It can be challenging to identify using standard laboratory methods, which makes rapid surveillance testing essential for controlling and mitigating outbreaks in healthcare settings.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is required for test processing. Use Eswab transport media for swab specimens, available through ARUP supply. For non-swab specimens such as bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), sputum, or urine, transfer 1 mL to a sterile container, ensuring a minimum volume of 0.5 mL. The specimen should be frozen for storage and transport purposes.
Limitations
This PCR test detects the presence of Candida auris DNA but does not distinguish between colonization and invasive infection. A negative result does not preclude the presence of PCR inhibitors in the specimen or the existence of Candida auris DNA at concentrations below the detection limit of this assay. The method's sensitivity and specificity have been determined but the test is not cleared or approved by the FDA.
