Carbapenem-Resistant Organism Culture
Also known as: MC CRO
Use
This test is used in screening for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae as recommended by the CDC. It helps identify the presence of carbapenem-resistant organisms, which are critical to detect for infection control and treatment purposes. This test is particularly significant in healthcare settings where such infections may spread or in patients suspected to be carriers of these resistant pathogens.
Special Instructions
Before submitting specimens, it is necessary to notify the Bacteriology Laboratory of the number of specimens being shipped and the date of shipment by calling 800-242-2787 ext. 2248. ESwab transport media (ARUP Supply #45877) is recommended for specimen transport, which is available via ARUP Connect or ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
The test is not intended for screening donor material. It is a laboratory-developed test, and its performance characteristics have been developed and validated by ARUP Laboratories. It is not cleared or approved by the FDA but is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and intended for clinical purposes.
