Cardiolipin Antibody, IgM
Also known as: AC-IGM
Use
This test is used for the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). The persistent presence of IgG and/or IgM cardiolipin antibodies in moderate or high levels is a laboratory criterion for APS diagnosis according to the guidelines. IgM antibodies detected in two or more specimens drawn at least 12 weeks apart are considered significant.
Special Instructions
Order with Lupus Anticoagulant Reflex Panel (3017009) and Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 Antibodies, IgG and IgM (0050321) for comprehensive assessment. Cardiolipin Antibodies, IgG and IgM (0099344) is preferred in some cases.
Limitations
Results should not be used alone for diagnosis. They need to be interpreted along with APS-specific clinical manifestations and/or other criteria phospholipid antibody tests. Lower positive levels, although above the cutoff, may not signify APS without additional clinical context.
