Chlamydia trachomatis Culture
Use
This test is used to assess suspected treatment failure of Chlamydia trachomatis. It is not recommended for routine detection but may be considered for anatomic locations for which amplified testing has not been validated. Positive cultures are confirmed for trachomatis by Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA) at no additional charge.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is preferred. Nucleic acid amplification testing is recommended for detection from endocervical or urethral specimens. Specimens must be collected and transported with test-specific kit.
Limitations
The test is not recommended for routine detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and has limited sensitivity. A negative result does not rule out the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis. Specimens in transport media not designed to support the growth of Chlamydia and certain swab types are unacceptable. Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen at -20 degrees C: Unacceptable; Frozen at -70 degrees C: 1 month.
