Chloride, Fecal
Also known as: FE-CL
Use
The Chloride, Fecal test is used to measure the level of chloride ions in a liquid stool sample. It is typically used to help diagnose conditions that may affect chloride absorption in the intestines or to evaluate conditions such as congenital chloride diarrhea. The test can provide important insights into electrolyte imbalance related to gastrointestinal disorders.
Special Instructions
Ensure the stool sample collected is a liquid random stool and does not contain any added saline or water. Use the ARUP Supply #40910 for proper specimen transport.
Limitations
This test does not have an established reference interval for fecal specimens, and it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. The test results should be interpreted in the context of the overall clinical picture as they may not fully reflect the patient's clinical condition. The test may be affected by improper sample collection or storage.
