Chromogranin A by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: CHROMO IHC
Use
Chromogranin A testing by immunohistochemistry is used to evaluate various tumors including those related to vasoactive intestinal peptide secreting tumors (VIPoma), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (gastrinoma), and somatostatinoma. It serves as a marker to determine the presence of neuroendocrine tissues and can guide treatment options and patient management strategies by determining tumor type and activity.
Special Instructions
For accurate test submission, it is necessary to submit an electronic request. In the absence of electronic ordering capabilities, use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. For additional details, ARUP Client Services can be contacted for instructions.
Limitations
The test is limited to stain and return (technical) service only. It does not include additional interpretive diagnostic analysis. Specimens need to be representative and not depleted to avoid rejection. Specimens must be properly protected from excessive heat during transport to maintain integrity.
