Complement Component 1Q Level
Also known as: COMP 1Q
Use
The Complement Component 1Q Level test aids in the diagnosis of C1q deficiency. It is a quantitative test that measures the active fraction component, C1q, of the C1 complement protein complex. C1q is a part of the classical complement pathway and plays a crucial role in immune responses, making this test critical for identifying deficiencies that can lead to increased susceptibility to infections and autoimmune disorders.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, it is imperative to adhere to strict sample handling protocols as outlined: separate plasma from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection, then transfer and freeze the plasma immediately. This test requires dedicated specimens if multiple tests are ordered simultaneously.
Limitations
The test is sensitive to the handling and condition of the specimens. Grossly hemolyzed, hyperlipemic, or room temperature specimens are not acceptable as they can lead to inaccurate results. Additionally, serum and non-EDTA plasma are not suitable specimens. This is a quantitative assay and alterations outside the specified reference interval (109-242 µg/mL) must be interpreted in clinical context. The accuracy of the test results depends significantly on proper sample processing and handling.
