Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Also known as: CMP
Use
The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a blood test used to evaluate overall health and diagnose a wide range of clinical conditions, including kidney function, liver function, and electrolyte and acid/base balance. It measures levels of glucose, calcium, renal, and liver biomarkers to provide insights into metabolic processes and organ functions.
Special Instructions
Protect specimens from light. Allow serum tube to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible or within 30 minutes of collection. Transfer serum or plasma to an ARUP amber transport tube.
Limitations
This test is influenced by factors such as hemolysis, lysis of samples, and improper storage conditions. Citrate, oxalate, or sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate tubes are unacceptable conditions for this test and may affect the accuracy of the results. Results may vary based on instrumentation and reference intervals.
