Use
This test provides expert pathology consultation for head and neck surgical pathology specimens, offering interpretive analysis and recommendations. Appropriate stains and ancillary testing, including immunostains or molecular studies, may be performed at the pathologist’s discretion. This is intended to assist referring clinicians in diagnosis, management, and further testing decisions.
Special Instructions
Submit stained slides, paraffin block(s), and the surgical pathology report in a consultation transport kit (ARUP supply #53462). Order electronically or use ARUP Anatomic Pathology Form #32960 if electronic ordering is not available. Transport and storage at room temperature or refrigerated; ship in cooled container during summer months.
Limitations
Wet tissue, non‑representative tissues, or depleted specimens are unacceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Ancillary testing may not be performed if deemed unnecessary by the reviewing ARUP pathologist.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin is preferred) and paraffin embed specimen. Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport all case material to include stained slides, paraffin blocks and surgical pathology report in a consultation transport kit (ARUP supply #53462).
Storage Instructions
Room temperature. Also acceptable: Refrigerated. Ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
All wet tissue, including for primary diagnosis. Specimens submitted with non‑representative tissue type. Depleted specimens.
