Cortisol/Cortisone Urine Free by LC-MS/MS
Also known as: CORTURATIO
Use
This test is significant for assessing levels of free cortisol and cortisone in urine, which is useful in diagnosing disorders like Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease. It provides an insight into abnormal adrenal activity by measuring the cortisol/cortisone ratio and comparing results to creatinine-adjusted levels, thus aiding in the evaluation of adrenal function and monitoring corticosteroid therapy efficacy.
Special Instructions
Transport 4 mL of urine refrigerated. Ensure total volume and collection time are recorded on the transport tube and test request form. The assay includes calculations to aid in the interpretation of results collected over 24 hours based on average daily urine volume.
Limitations
The test is not FDA-cleared or approved but developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It is limited by the accuracy of urine collection times and volumes, and only suitable for specimens without acidification or preservatives, as they are considered unacceptable. The test is not to be used as a standalone diagnostic for adrenal disorders but as part of a broader diagnostic approach including clinical assessment.
