Use
The test serves as an indicator of adrenal androgen production, aiding in the investigation of virilizing endocrinopathies when used in conjunction with other sex steroids. It is not recommended as an initial evaluation for polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Special Instructions
The test is New York state approved and can be performed every day of the week. Results are reported within 24 hours.
Limitations
The test should not be used as the initial evaluation for polycystic ovarian syndrome. Hemolyzed specimens are unacceptable, and care should be taken to separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection.
