Diuretic Screen, Urine
Also known as: DIURETIC U
Use
This test is used to screen for the presence of various diuretics in urine. Diuretics are medications that promote diuresis, or increased production of urine, and are commonly prescribed to treat conditions such as hypertension and edema. The test aids in monitoring patient compliance, therapeutic drug monitoring, and in cases of suspected abuse or misuse of diuretics.
Special Instructions
This test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories and requires separate specimen submissions if multiple tests are ordered. In order to ensure accurate testing, transfer 10 mL urine to ARUP standard transport tubes.
Limitations
The test provides a qualitative high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC/UV) screening. It may have limitations in detecting low concentrations below the established threshold of 2 ug/mL. Additionally, some structurally similar compounds may cause interference, potentially leading to false positives or negatives. Therefore, results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory data.
