Entamoeba histolytica Antigen, EIA
Also known as: AMOEBA
Use
The Entamoeba histolytica Antigen test is used to diagnose infections caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica, which can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea. It is particularly recommended for testing in cases of persistent diarrhea lasting over 14 days or when clinical risk factors suggest E. histolytica as the suspected agent.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be transferred to an unpreserved stool transport vial using ARUP supply #40910, available online or through ARUP Client Services. Unacceptable conditions include specimens in media or preservatives.
Limitations
This test is designed for qualitative detection of the E. histolytica antigen. Results must be interpreted in context with the patient's clinical condition and other diagnostic tests. Unacceptable specimen conditions and incorrect storage may lead to false results. Ambient stability is not acceptable, and excessive handling may reduce antigen viability.
