Factor V, Activity
Also known as: F5
Use
Factor V, Activity test is used to evaluate for possible deficiency of factor V. It is crucial in the coagulation pathway, and a deficiency may lead to bleeding disorders. Proper evaluation ensures accurate diagnosis and aids in the management of coagulation disorders. It is not intended for Factor V Leiden testing, which requires ordering the APC Resistance Profile with Reflex to Factor V Leiden or the Factor V Leiden (F5) R506Q Mutation test.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved. Use only sodium citrate tubes for specimen collection. Ensure specimen handling guidelines are followed as per hemostasis/thrombosis requirements. Separate specimens must be submitted for multiple tests.
Limitations
The Factor V, Activity test should not be ordered if testing for Factor V Leiden is required, as it does not detect the Leiden mutation. Incorrect specimen handling and delays in freezing could affect the test results. Serum, EDTA plasma, and clotted or hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable as they may lead to inaccurate results.
