Factor X, Activity
Also known as: F10
Use
The Factor X Activity test is used to evaluate the clotting activity of Factor X, which is a crucial component of the coagulation cascade. It is critical for converting prothrombin to thrombin and is necessary for proper blood clot formation. Deficiencies can lead to bleeding disorders and may be hereditary or acquired. This test is utilized in patients with unexplained bleeding, for monitoring Factor X levels, and prior to surgeries in individuals with known deficiencies to guide therapeutic management.
Special Instructions
This test should not be ordered for FXa levels, instead refer to Heparin Anti-Xa tests for those measurements. Follow specific specimen collection and handling instructions as errors such as hemolysis, clotted samples or incorrect specimen types can affect results. It is essential that samples are kept CRITICAL FROZEN to ensure integrity.
Limitations
Test accuracy may be compromised if pre-analytical conditions such as specimen collection and handling are not strictly followed. The test does not provide information about Factor Xa levels and cannot distinguish between hereditary and acquired deficiencies. Variability in results may occur due to anticoagulant therapy or liver disease, and is not recommended for post-thawing analysis beyond the prescribed stability period.
