Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of carcinoid and gastrinoma tumors. It is relevant for conditions such as Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PNETs), Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and Megaloblastic Anemia.
Special Instructions
Patient fasting for 12 hours prior to collection is recommended. The specimen is collected in a serum separator tube.
Limitations
Gastrin levels may be affected by recent food intake, medications, or other health conditions. Plasma, tissue, or urine samples are unacceptable as they can lead to inaccurate results. Hemolyzed or lipemic samples are also unacceptable due to potential interference in the assay. Ambient stability is limited to 8 hours, refrigerated stability extends to 1 week, and frozen stability to 1 month.
