Gastrointestinal Parasite Panel by PCR
Also known as: GI PARAPCR
Use
The Gastrointestinal Parasite Panel by PCR is designed as a sensitive alternative to traditional, insensitive ova and parasite examinations of stool specimens. It is used for the evaluation of gastrointestinal infections and can detect multiple pathogens, including Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, Dientamoeba fragilis, and Cyclospora cayetanensis. It is not recommended for use in patients who develop diarrhea during prolonged hospitalization.
Special Instructions
The test should not be used for diarrhea developed during prolonged hospitalization.
Limitations
A negative result by this test does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or the presence of target nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection. The performance of this test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.
