Glucagon
Use
The Glucagon test is used as an aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of glucagonoma, a type of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. It measures the level of glucagon in the plasma, which can be elevated in individuals with glucagonoma or other conditions affecting glucagon levels.
Special Instructions
Patients are required to fast for 8-12 hours prior to specimen collection to ensure accurate measurement. Mix well after collection, separate from cells within 1 hour, and ensure specimen is adequately frozen for transport.
Limitations
Potential interferences include hemolyzed, lipemic, icteric, or clotted specimens which can affect the accuracy of results. The test relies on the ELISA methodology which, while sensitive, can be subject to cross-reactivity or variability depending on sample handling and test conditions.
