Glucose Screen, Pregnancy
Also known as: GSCN
Use
This test serves as a screening measure for gestational diabetes in pregnant patients. Values exceeding 140 mg/dL constitute a positive screen and should be followed by a diagnostic three‑hour oral glucose tolerance test (Glucose Tolerance Test, Pregnancy 0020543).
Special Instructions
Patient should receive 50 g glucola. Do not mix with water unless directions on product label indicate to do so. Patient need not be fasting. During the test period the patient must remain inactive and receive nothing by mouth (including tobacco); a small sip of water or ice is permissible. Results may be invalidated by emesis or conditions that delay gastric emptying. Collect at 60 minutes post‑glucose load.
Limitations
Positive screens (>140 mg/dL) require follow‑up with a diagnostic test; conditions that delay gastric emptying or cause emesis may invalidate results.
