Use
Aids in the initial diagnosis and posttreatment monitoring of Helicobacter pylori infection in adult patients and in pediatric patients aged 3-17 years. It helps in detecting active infection as well as in confirming eradication post-treatment. The test is designed for patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of an H. pylori infection, such as gastritis or peptic ulcer disease.
Special Instructions
The patient preparation involves fasting for at least one hour before administering the test solution. Avoid antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, or bismuth preparations within two weeks prior to the test. Discontinue histamine 2-receptor antagonists like Axid, Pepcid, Tagamet, or Zantac 24-48 hours before collection. Antacids do not affect the test's accuracy.
Limitations
False-negative results can occur if the test is conducted within six weeks after treatment, if there's ingestion of antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, or bismuth preparations within the preceding two weeks, or if the breath sample is collected too early or late post-dose. False positives may result from the presence of achlorhydria, improper ingestion of the test solution (rinsing in the mouth), or the presence of other urease-positive gastric spiral organisms.
