Hemoglobin, Serum
Also known as: HGBS
Use
This test is primarily used to identify increased hemoglobin concentration in the serum, which is indicative of acute intravascular destruction of erythrocytes. It is not considered of clinical value in the diagnosis of chronic hemolytic disorders.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Delayed separation of serum from cells can artificially elevate serum hemoglobin levels. The test does not provide clinical value for chronic hemolytic disorders and should not be used for such purposes. Hemoglobin in serum may be affected by hemolysis during specimen collection or handling.
