Hepatitis B Virus Surface Antibody
Also known as: HBSAB
Use
The Hepatitis B Virus Surface Antibody test is used to monitor post-liver-transplant therapy with hepatitis B immunoglobulin in HBV-positive patients and to ascertain the response to HBV vaccines. An anti-HBs result greater than or equal to 10 IU/L indicates immunity to hepatitis B, making it an essential tool for evaluating immunization status or previous exposure through infection or vaccination.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved. It is not intended for blood donor screening, associated reentry protocols, or screening human cells, tissues, and cellular- and tissue-based products (HCT/P).
Limitations
The assay should not be utilized for blood donor screening, associated reentry protocols, or screening human cells, tissues, and cellular- and tissue-based products (HCT/P). The test cannot differentiate between active infection and immunity from vaccination or past infection. Results greater than 1,000.00 IU/L are reported as greater than 1,000.00 IU/L without an exact quantification above this limit.
