Interleukin 5, Plasma
Also known as: IL5 PLA
Use
The Interleukin 5, Plasma test is primarily used for research and to support attempts to understand the pathogenesis of immune, infectious, allergic, or inflammatory disorders. The results can aid in understanding the pathophysiology of these conditions, supporting the ongoing study of cytokine levels and their implications in disease states. This test is executed to provide a quantitative measure of Interleukin 5 levels in plasma, which can be pertinent for examining immune response in various clinical scenarios.
Special Instructions
Cytokine levels may demonstrate diurnal variation. For longitudinal comparison, it is recommended that cytokine levels be determined at the same time of day. Separate plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Ship samples critical frozen.
Limitations
This test was developed by ARUP Laboratories and has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Performing the test in a CLIA certified laboratory ensures its intended use for clinical purposes. Refrigerated, contaminated, or heat-inactivated specimens are considered unacceptable, and multiple test orders require separate specimen submissions. Additionally, ambient stability is limited to 30 minutes.
