Use
Measurement of lactic acid concentration in body fluid specimens such as peritoneal or synovial fluid can aid in assessment of metabolic conditions, ischemia, infection, or other pathologies involving anaerobic metabolism. Interpretation must be in context of the origin of the fluid and the patient’s overall clinical status.
Special Instructions
Test is marked inactive as of July 21, 2025. Clients must specify the fluid source. Specimen must be centrifuged to remove cells and cannot be shared with other tests.
Limitations
Only peritoneal or synovial fluid accepted; hemolyzed specimens or other fluids are rejected. Inactivity status means test no longer available after July 21, 2025.
