Mucopolysaccharides, Quantitative, Urine
Also known as: MPS QNT
Use
This test is used to monitor glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in patients who have been previously diagnosed with a mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS). Monitoring GAG levels is crucial for managing patients with MPS as it helps in assessing disease progression and treatment efficacy.
Special Instructions
A morning urine void is preferred for specimen collection. Ensure the immediate transfer of urine to ARUP Standard Transport Tubes for freezing, as stability is affected by temperature.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for initial screening for MPS. It is specifically designed for monitoring purposes in patients already diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidosis. Specimens contaminated or containing preservatives are unacceptable, potentially affecting the accuracy of the results.
