Mucorales by PCR
Also known as: MUCORPCR
Use
The Mucorales by PCR test is an adjunct tool for diagnosing invasive mucormycosis infections caused by common genera within the Mucorales order. This test does not replace traditional methods like culture and histopathology but complements them by offering a more rapid and specific detection of Mucorales genera, which can aid in timely diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Special Instructions
The test requires serum, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial wash, sputum, body fluid, fresh tissue, or paraffin-embedded tissue specimens. Paraffin-embedded tissue should be transported using a Tissue Transport Kit available through ARUP eSupply. Ensure specimen source is specified and transfer to a sterile container to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
The Mucorales by PCR test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories in a CLIA certified laboratory, and while it is suitable for clinical use, it should not be solely relied upon for diagnosis. Negative results do not exclude the possibility of inhibitors or the presence of nucleic acid below the detection limit of the assay.
