NTRK Fusion Panel by Next Generation Sequencing
Also known as: NTRK PAN
Use
The NTRK Fusion Panel by Next Generation Sequencing is designed for the detection of NTRK gene fusions, which are critical diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers in various cancers such as thyroid and breast cancer. Detecting these fusions can provide important information for patient management, including prognostic implications and potential eligibility for targeted therapies like TRK inhibitors.
Special Instructions
Formal collection and handling requirements must be strictly followed. Tumor tissue must be formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded, and specific slide types are required. Coordination with ARUP for specimen transport is needed, with an emphasis on protecting samples from extreme temperatures.
Limitations
The test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories and is sent out to a non-ARUP laboratory for analysis. Limitations exist if the specimen is not properly fixed or embedded, potentially affecting the accuracy of fusion detection. Additionally, not all NTRK fusions may be detected due to assay sensitivity constraints and tissue quality.
