Olanzapine
Also known as: OLANZ
Use
Olanzapine is an antipsychotic drug indicated for the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder. This test is used to monitor therapeutic drug levels, optimize drug therapy, and monitor patient adherence. The therapeutic range is based on serum, predose (trough) draw collection at steady-state concentration. Monitoring ensures levels are within the therapeutic range to avoid adverse effects and toxicity.
Special Instructions
Timing for specimen collection is critical, and should be a pre-dose (trough) draw at steady-state concentration. Special handling requirements include the transport of serum or plasma separated within 2 hours of collection and maintaining CRITICAL FROZEN conditions during transport.
Limitations
The test shows interference with high levels of hemolysis and impacts quantitation when Noroxycodone is present. Care should be taken during specimen collection to avoid unacceptable conditions, such as using whole blood or gel separator tubes, which can impact result accuracy.
