p53 by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: P53 IHC
Use
This IHC stain is used to evaluate p53 protein expression in tissue or cellblock specimens, serving as a marker for aberrant p53 (tumor protein 53) expression. It is performed as a technical stain with pathologist interpretation to assess tumor cells.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic request or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is unavailable. Submit surgical pathology report with specimen. Tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808) available via ARUP Connect. Protect paraffin blocks/slides from heat; if sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
Limitations
Unacceptable specimens include non-representative tissue and depleted specimens. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Protect specimens from excessive heat. Submission without interpretive context or pathology report may limit interpretation.
