Pancreatic Polypeptide
Also known as: PAN POLY
Use
Pancreatic Polypeptide measurement aids in the diagnosis and monitoring of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. These measurements are significant for patients suspected of having such tumors, offering insights into tumor presence or behavior through the quantification of pancreatic polypeptide levels in serum. Early detection and ongoing assessment help in tailoring patient treatment plans effectively.
Special Instructions
Patients should be fasting for 10 hours prior to specimen collection. It is important for the specimen to be processed promptly, with serum separated from cells within 2 hours of collection to ensure result integrity. Follow all recommended storage and transport instructions to prevent specimen rejection.
Limitations
The test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories, but it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes. Poor specimen handling can lead to inaccurate results, particularly if plasma specimens or those that are severely hemolyzed or lipemic are submitted.
