Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG
Also known as: PARVO G
Use
The Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG test is used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies to Parvovirus B19, which may indicate a past or current infection. This antibody test helps in the diagnosis of erythema infectiosum or fifth disease. The best evidence for current infection is a significant change on two appropriately timed specimens, where both tests are done in the same laboratory at the same time.
Special Instructions
Not recommended as a standalone test. Preferred test is Parvovirus B19 Antibodies, IgG and IgM (0065120). Mark specimens plainly as 'acute' or 'convalescent.'
Limitations
The test may not detect antibodies in early infection before seroconversion or in the case of immunocompromised patients who might not produce sufficient antibodies. Environmental and technical factors may affect assay performance, leading to false positives or negatives. Equivocal results suggest repeat testing in 7-21 days may be helpful.
