Phenol Exposure Quantitative, Urine
Also known as: PHENOL U
Use
This test is used to quantitatively measure phenol levels in urine, which can be indicative of phenol exposure. Phenol is a compound found in many industrial processes such as the production of plastics and resins, and can also be found in certain pharmaceuticals and disinfectants. Monitoring urinary phenol levels helps in assessing exposure and potential health effects, especially in occupational settings.
Special Instructions
This test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories but requires submission to a specified laboratory. Separate specimens must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered concurrently. An ARUP standard transport tube must be used for specimen submission without preservative.
Limitations
The test results may vary based on sample collection, handling, and the presence of interfering substances. Specimens preserved with benzoic acid or received at room temperature are considered unacceptable. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, as it is developed and performed by NMS Labs. Interpretive data should be referenced from the test report for detailed information.
