Phospholipids, Serum or Plasma
Use
This test is useful in the evaluation of liver disease, particularly obstructive jaundice. The measurement of phospholipids can provide important information regarding liver function and possible cholestasis.
Special Instructions
Patient should fast for 12 hours prior to collection to ensure accurate results. Specimens should be collected in a serum separator tube, plain red, lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), or green (sodium or lithium heparin) tube.
Limitations
The performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories, and the test was developed as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT). It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, which may limit its acceptance in certain regulatory environments. Results may be affected by improper specimen collection, handling, or storage, which could lead to inaccurate measurements.
