RNA Extraction and Storage
Also known as: RNA EXT
Use
The RNA Extraction and Storage test is designed to extract RNA from whole blood or bone marrow and store it for potential add-on testing exclusively at ARUP Laboratories. The extracted RNA will be held frozen for up to six months, ensuring availability for future testing requests. The service integrates efficient RNA handling for subsequent molecular diagnostic evaluations without returning samples to clients or forwarding them to vendor laboratories.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be received within 48 hours of collection due to the lability of RNA. The test is exclusively performed at ARUP Laboratories, meaning that extracted RNA will not be sent back to clients or forwarded to vendor laboratories.
Limitations
This test does not offer any standalone diagnostic outcome since it only provides the extraction and storage of RNA without any immediate analysis or profiling. The RNA's stability is limited to 48 hours when refrigerated, and it is unacceptable when frozen. Clients should consider the implications of sample degradation and the restricted approval status in New York for their testing strategies.
