Silver, Urine
Also known as: SILVER URN
Use
The Silver, Urine test is used to detect and measure the concentration of silver in urine. Silver is used in a variety of applications, including as an antimicrobial agent in wound dressings and medical devices. Measuring the urinary excretion of silver can help assess exposure levels in individuals potentially exposed to silver through various means. This test is important for monitoring occupational exposure, environmental contamination, or therapeutic use of silver-containing compounds.
Special Instructions
This test is not performed at ARUP; separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Protect specimens from light by transferring them to a foil-wrapped, acid-washed transfer vial or ARUP trace element-free transport tube. Avoid exposure to gadolinium-based contrast media for 48 hours prior to specimen collection.
Limitations
Elevated results for elemental testing may be caused by environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection and should be interpreted accordingly. It is recommended that unexpected elevated results be verified by testing another specimen in a trace metal free container. This test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
